Introduction to the Instructor Migration Course
The Instructor Migration Course (IMC) is designed for existing instructors accredited by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) wishing to facilitate Resuscitation Australia’s mixed-mode Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses in Australia and internationally.
Completing this course will enable you to have your existing instructor status recognised by Resuscitation Australia and support you in transitioning smoothly to instructing on our courses, should you wish to do so.
Watch the following video featuring Ebony-Maria Levy, as she extends a warm welcome to the IMC.
Learning Outcomes
In this course, you’ll receive a detailed overview of Resuscitation Australia’s educational methodology and how we have designed innovative and clinically relevant mixed-modality training to revolutionise how resuscitation training is delivered across the country.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Describe Resuscitation Australia’s teaching methodologies, assessment frameworks, and course requirements.
- Understand the context in which Resuscitation Australia has developed its mixed-mode course offerings, in alignment with international best practice recommendations in favour of a blended learning approach.
- Consider (with intention and perspective) whether becoming a Resuscitation Australia Accredited ALS Instructor is in alignment with your instructional style and preferences.
- Submit the Instructor Accreditation Application Form at the conclusion of the IMC (Module 7) to initiate the instructor credentialing process, should you opt to do so.
Understanding our approach is essential to ensure consistency in educational quality, adherence to evidence-based practice, and a shared instructional philosophy across our national faculty. This course will clarify how and why we deliver training in the way we do, so that learning is translated into confident, competent performance in real clinical environments. This equips you to provide instruction that is robust, defensible, and focused on what ultimately matters most: improved patient outcomes.
Course Rhythm
The IMC contains seven modules, each of which is compulsory to complete:
You may progress through the modules at your own pace, based on your own schedule and learning preferences. However, you will need to complete each module in its entirety before progressing to the next one.
Module 6, the mandatory assessment, will check the knowledge you’ve acquired in this course. It is comprised of 20 multiple choice questions. Passing this assessment with 80% or more is a strict pre-requisite for accreditation with Resuscitation Australia as a migrating ALS Instructor. Should you not meet this grade requirement on the first attempt, you can revisit the relevant course content before retaking the quiz.
Accreditation Criteria
To obtain accreditation with Resuscitation Australia as a migrating instructor, you must:
- Hold current ARC instructor accreditation status.
- Hold a current Advanced Life Support – Level 1 (ALS1) or Level 2 (ALS2) credential issued by either Resuscitation Australia or ARC.
- Successfully complete the Resuscitation Australia IMC (including passing the mandatory assessment).
- Complete the Existing ARC ALS Instructor: Accreditation Application Form, which will be made available at the conclusion of this course. It requires you to attach evidence of your existing Instructor credential/s and your ALS1 or ALS2 credentials.
- Pay the Instructor Credentialing Fee, which is either $145 (including GST) for an Annual Instructor Credential, or $395 (including GST) for a Four-Year Instructor Credential.
As a Resuscitation Australia Instructor, you will be required to instruct on a minimum of two ALS courses per annum for the duration of your accreditation credentialing period.
